Since moving to the South Bay, I have been in awe of the incredible diversity of birds present at Baylands Nature Preserve in Palo Alto. Its entrance is a two minute drive from the nearest freeway exit, making this area a true gem nestled in the Silicon Valley’s urban sprawl.
One Year of Baylands is my project to celebrate this area. By providing photographs and personal anecdotes about my visit, I hope that I can stir up some of the wonder that I felt when I first visited. Because I love data so much, I will also be documenting the Baylands’ diversity and sheer numbers of birds by conducting weekly surveys at the area. These data will be contributed to a worldwide citizen science project for birds, eBird.
Cheers to your next birding adventure, and thanks for reading!
